| Jerry Romelczyk's Retirement Dinner |
On April 10, 2010, the Walpole Library Trustees and the Library Friends sponsored a dinner at the Walpole Country Club to honor Jerry Romelczyk on his retirement as Walpole Public Library Director. Paul Cesary, Chairman of the Library Trustees, was master of ceremonies for the event. Jerry served as Library Director for 23 years and has led the library in evolving and expanding services to meet the changing needs of the community. The new library is largely a result of his vision and efforts. In honor of Jerry's many years of loyal service to the Town of Walpole, a permanently named scholarship was established at the Walpole Scholarship Foundation and announced at the dinner. The WSF is a volunteer organization that has given out over $2.4 million since its founding in 1983 to deserving Walpole residents pursuing higher education. An anonymous donor wanted to continue Jerry's generous legacy of community service. Jerry has been a key supporter of the Library Friends since its inception and has helped keep it going over the years. He has worked tirelessly to serve the town and to involve the community with the library. The Library Friends joined in recognizing Jerry at the dinner by presenting him a plaque and painting of the Walpole Library.
